Pat Sajak Rags On ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Contestant Who Is A Self-Professed “Expert At Doing Simon Says”
Wheel of Fortune‘s Pat Sajak has always been one for cheeky contestant banter, and Friday night’s (Feb. 2) episode was no exception.
According to Newsweek, the target of Sajak’s burn was Joel Crandall, a contestant whom he presented on air as being “an expert at doing Simon Says.”
“People like to brag about their skills. I’m not sure if I would brag about this one,” he teased.
Joel stepped in to defend himself and ultimately clapped back at Sajak, telling the host that he “would not believe how often that comes in handy.”
“You just get in a spot where somebody needs to fill space for a little bit of time,” he explained. “You know something about that. And then you just have to be able to keep things going.”
Taken aback, Sajak eventually gazed directly into the camera and joked, “Simon says, ‘What do you mean by that?’”
He clarified, “I got it, actually.”
While Crandall’s introduction might have earned him first place in our hearts, he ultimately was runner-up on Friday night’s episode, per the New York Post.
Sajak’s antics have become a show staple. Last December, he teased stumped contestant Jill Ashe after she asked, ”What kind of puzzle is that?”
“It’s a puzzle you didn’t solve,” Sajak retorted.
He told contestant Micah White that his incorrect Bonus Round guess was “so not close,” last month, and even roasted contestant Mariha Feliciano as she talked about her aquarium and ultimately revealed that two of her fish “killed [her] other fish.”
“Really a downer,” Sajak said in respons
However, devoted Wheel fans are just as vocal about Sajak’s comments and on-air behavior online. Last month, fans were upset after he said “Shut up” to contestant Angela Omezie in good fun, and they were perplexed after he revealed the answer of the “Rhyme Time” category to be “absolutely positively.”
Wheel of Fortune airs on weeknights at 7:30/6:30c. Check out their website for local listings. Watch the silly moment above.
