Brigitte Bardot ‘recovering’ after emergency services treat her for breathing issues at home
Brigitte Bardot, 88, has been treated at home by emergency services after struggling to breathe amid the heatwave gripping the continent.
The screen star’s husband Bernard d’Ormale confirmed that ambulances were called to their Saint-Tropez home on Wednesday after she suffered breathing issues, which he described as “a moment of respiratory distraction”.
Mr d’Ormale, 82, told French news outlet Var-Matin that medics initially went to the wrong address but fortunately, firefighters soon arrived and put Bardot on oxygen before staying to monitor her.
As per Page Six, he said: “It was around 9am when Brigitte had trouble breathing. [Her breathing] was stronger than usual but she did not lose consciousness.”
“Like all people of a certain age, she can no longer bear the heat. It happens at 88 years old. She must not make useless efforts.”
In a later statement shared with Var-Matin, Mr d’Ormale stressed that Bardot was recovering after she was brought to a medical centre for a check-up on a respiratory condition.
While her red blood cell count was low, Bardot’s husband said she had only needed to use a little of the oxygen provided by firefighters.
The couple have been married for more than three decades. Their wedding in 1992 marked her fifth walk up the aisle.
Prior to their vows, Bardot had been married four times, with her current marriage lasting longer than the previous three combined.
The screen siren was born in 1934 in Paris, France. Her film career began in 1952, and gained international recognition five years later for her role in And God Created Woman.
She also performed in musicals and recorded songs before retiring from entertainment in 1973.
