Christina Applegate Has 30 Brain Lesions Because Of MS: ‘Worst Thing That’s Happened To Me’
Christina Applegate is opening up about her struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS.)
The ‘Bad Moms’ actress, diagnosed with the autoimmune illness in 2021, spoke candidly about her daily challenges. Applegate didn’t hold back, stating unequivocally on the March 25 episode of Armchair Expert, “This is the worst thing that’s happened to me in my entire life.”
The 52-year-old actress expressed that she experiences continual pain as a result of the condition.
“I have 30 lesions on my brain,” she said. “My biggest one is behind my right eye, so my right eye hurts a lot.”
Applegate also acknowledged the neurological symptoms, revealing how her “hand starts to go weird and then I’ll get a seizure-y feeling sometimes in my brain.”
The Los Angeles native expressed her frustration and anger about her experience with multiple sclerosis, stating that she “hates it” and feels “mad about it.” She also acknowledged that during her breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, she concealed the challenges she faced at the time.
“Everything I was saying was a freaking lie,” she confided to co-hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. “It was me trying to convince myself of something, and I think that did no service to anyone.”
Nevertheless, Applegate remains resolute in facing her health challenges with resilience. This determination led her to make self-deprecating jokes during her appearance at the 2023 Emmys in January.
“I make these jokes because if I don’t, I’ll suffocate,” she confessed. “I’m not ready for the healing yet.”
